The Old
Munichburg Association was formed in 2000. Its purpose is to preserve
this historic area, with its quaint shops and residential areas. Twenty
properties, including about a dozen that comprise a contiguous district
at the intersection of Dunklin and Broadway streets, have been placed on
the National Register of Historic Places and provide lovely examples of
German American vernacular architecture.
We are
dedicated to the revitalization of Jefferson City’s historic South Side.
We are homeowners and renters, business owners, and others with a love
of the district and a desire to promote, preserve, and protect it.
Some
recent and ongoing activities include: establishing a Neighborhood Watch
program; working with city government to forge a partner-city
relationship with Münchberg, Bavaria; producing a brochure featuring
Munichburg businesses; working toward establishing a pocket park
featuring the historic Lohman arch; maintaining street banners
identifying our area; working with the city to improve curbs and
sidewalks; adding more properties to the National Register; and oral
history preservation. We also sponsor an annual Oktoberfest celebration
(the last Saturday in September) and participate in Central Church’s
annual Christmas Kristkindelfest. We love to meet new friends. Come get
involved!
